Today the interwebs are abuzz with the new Tobacco album Maniac Meat. Yesterday The Hood Internet put out a 5 song EP mashing up the new album Maniac Meat with songs from the Slug+ Murs + Aesop Rock supergroup Felt of their latest Felt 3: A Tribute To Rosie Perez. It’s mad cool and you can download that here.
But really what I think is the coolest is the fact that you can download all the instrumentals and acapellas from the Felt album and the proceeds will go to 826LA National– an amazing non-profit organization that helps kids learn the joys of creative writing, through after school tutoring, weekend and summer workshops, and in-school programs. Why this isn’t made clear on the iTunes page I don’t know.
I work with the organization here in Los Angeles and not only does it do great work for the community and the kids love participating – they run fantastic programs for adults as well, often uniting with other art forms/artists to get people involved.
Speaking of artists uniting, check out some of the other music collaborations….
Chickens in Love – an online pledge-a-thon culminating in a full-length album featuring the likes of She & Him, Fiona Apple, Cold War Kids, Tim and Eric, The Submarines, Summer Darling, The Happy Hollows, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Dum Dum Girls, The Growlers, Crystal Antlers, and The Pity Party all singing songs written by the 826LA students!
Give Listen Help – Filter Magazine and Urban Outfitters teamed up to make a little double-vinyl compilation with a few artists you may have heard of – Phoenix, Wolfmother, The Ting Tings, Metric, Rain Machine, Cold War Kids, Passion Pit, MGMT and plenty more, featuring remixes/versions of some of their best stuff in ways you may not have heard before. Don’t have a record player? Don’t worry, the CD version is available as well.
Check out a couple of the tracks below!
Noah and the Whale “Blue Skies (Twelves Remix)”
Metric “Help I’m Alive (Acoustic)”
