I am sorry to say that the advent of my love affair with (the music of) LP came during The Age Of No Blogging, so I have yet to gush about one of my favorite artists of the past couple years on this forum. As this article states right off the bat, however, “LP isn’t yet a household name”. This is an utter tragedy, so late to the party as I am, I still feel compelled to do my part.
Yes, she’d written tracks like “Cheers (I’ll Drink To That)” for Rihanna, and “Beautiful People” for Christina Aguilera, to name a few, but LP’s first real breakthrough into the public consciousness was this Citibank commercial:
That’s at least how I first became aware of her, and “Into The Wild”, the killer song featured in the ad.
Many months later, after listening to the live EP, full length album and seeing her perform several times, I stand by the statement that “Tokyo Sunrise” is the more epic song, both recorded and live. And now that there is a music video for the track, it seemed like the right time to go public with my feelings:
