Neat Tracks

Neat Tracks / New Navy “Zimbabwe”

I feel like the word “navy” has been popping up in indie rock over the past few years – nowhere near as ubiquitous as “bear,” “deer,” or “crystal,” but noticeable nonetheless.

First it was just songs:

AgesandAges “Navy Parade”

Camera Obscura “French Navy”

White Rabbits “Navy Wives”

The Hold Steady “Navy Sheets”

Plus the Los Angeles band, Army Navy.  Now there seems to be a new “navy” out there called…New Navy.  These Aussie dudes have been getting attention across the pond(s) from both NME and Triple J.

Neat Tracks / Bombay Bicycle Club “Shuffle”

Not doing anything tonight?  Live in Los Angeles?  Dig the track below? Brit rockers Bombay Bicycle Club will be at the Fonda tonight with Vacationer.  It is bound to be a refreshing end to your Wednesday.  How can you not bop while listening to this song? File Under: Vampire Weekend, Two Door Cinema Club, Animal Collective, bouncy, sparkly, lush, electronic, pop

Neat Tracks / Willy Moon “Yeah Yeah”

I have been obsessed with this song for a while now.  I mean, it’s retro-soul that is based on a Wu-Tang Clan sample.  What?!  In case you missed me raving on Facebook, or were not one of the many people I forced to listen to it – here you go.

File Under: Nick Waterhouse, The Heavy, 1950’s, soul, New Zealand, glitch, rockabilly, swagger, Wu Tang sample, a good time

Willy Moon “Yeah Yeah”

The video is trippy and awesome as well. And if you’re into gangly, well-dressed men, with adorably awkward dance moves, this will make you combust.

It was only last Friday that I made this announcement via Twitter:

Well, it’s appears that summer came early this year (or is generally always hanging around, if you live in Los Angeles like I do). Moments later I found out that I could, in fact, share this infectious tune with all of you. And the same statement I made then still holds true today.

Neat Tracks / Rostam “Don’t Let It Get To You”

By Amanda DK

Artist: ROSTAM
Origin: New York, NY
Label: None
Latest Release: None

Rostam Batmanglij became known to most people via one of the biggest breakout indie pop bands of the past decade. He then stirred up some buzz again a few years ago as one-half of Discovery, his collaboration with Wes Miles, lead singer of another popular band (in hipster circles at least) Ra Ra Riot.

That said, it seems a bit ridiculous that it took the release of his solo work to finally get my attention.
