The Circle Game: I Hate You Mom!

Pissed that the rents aren’t letting you go to THE BIGGEST PARTY OF THE YEAR?! What are you gonna do? Lock yourself in your room with some teen angst and totally emo tunes of course. What do you listen to as you vent to your bff on AIM about how mom and dad just don’t understand you?

Bad Religion “I Want To Conquer The World”

Brand New “Sic Transit Gloria…Glory Fades”

Pearl Jam “Jeremy”

The Vandals “Sorry, Mom and Dad”

Wheatus “Teenage Dirtbag”

Blink 182 “Feeling This”

And a couple choice videos both newer and more classic. Damn the man, SAVE THE EMPIRE!

The Circle Game: I Won't Grow Up, I Don't Wanna Go To School…

Workout songs were kid stuff.  This week time for a brain stretch trying to put a soundtrack to the stages of life – innocent childhood, angsty adolescence, wise old age – and that tricky spot in the middle where you wake up one day, realize you’re a grown up and have to deal with it.

First up, carefree youth.  Peter Pan chose never to leave here.  Most adults wish they had that option.  Since time machines haven’t been invented yet, here are a few songs both melancholy and whimsical that will bring you back to those blissful times…

Atmosphere “In Her Music Box”

Delta Spirit “Children”

Jack Johnson “Banana Pancakes”

Sia “Playground”

The White Stripes “We’re Going To Be Friends”

Wilco “Just A Kid”

Plus a couple…interesting recommendations “songs have nothing to do with the theme of childhood just MY childhood” Anyone else?

Toni Braxton “You’re Makin Me High”

Collective Soul “December”

And a couple amazing and enchanting videos that got thrown my way today…

In addition to a little bonus that was all over the interwebs today, but is perfectly appropriate for todays theme. Be amazed.  Smile.  Enjoy.

From “Take Me Out to The Ball Game,”  to “Who Let The Dogs Out” music has always been essential to the team sport experience, and in light of the closing ceremonies of the Olympics and the victories of teams from all around the world it seemed appropriate to end the week of workout playlists with killer jock jams – and some great articles highlighting the (sometimes odd) relationship of music and sports.

What music wins in the stadium? Nelly vs. The Ramones vs. C+C Music Factory.

Rockstars vs. Pro Athletes – who’s more famous?

Get Your Body Moving: See You At The Finish

“What distinguishes those of us at the starting line from those of us on the couch is that we learn through running to take what the day gives us, what our body will allow us, and what our will can tolerate.” -John Bingham

Man, where would the catalog of inspirational quotes be without athletics?  Where would our athletes be without inspirational quotes?  Something to ponder on your next 5 mile run pounding the pavement to these tunes…
