TA Mixtape / An Ode to Autumn, from East to West (with Kan Wakan, Fossil Collective, Hurray for the Riff Raff and more…)

I find it pretty difficult to get into the holiday spirit here in Los Angeles.  I’m assuming this is because I was born and raised on the east coast, where the scenery at this time of year is not unlike what one would find on a postcard.  To be fair though I’ve never actually asked a native what defines Thanksgiving or Christmas to them.

Is Thanksgiving just a very large and specific meal, without the connotation of fall colors and a chill in the air?

Happy Halloween! A Special Guest Mixtape / DJ Bumbaclot “GHOSTS ON GHOSTS ON GHOSTS”

Yet another artfully constructed listening experience from DJ Bumbaclot.

Despite the decidedly un-scary and delightfully un-ironic viral video the title is referencing (as least, I’m pretty sure that’s what it’s referencing), this time he delivers a spooky and off-beat Halloween mix that might be just the thing to get you in the mood to celebrate a holiday on a BORING WEDNESDAY NIGHT.  Living room dance party!

TA Mixtape / I Am Grateful For…(Happy Thanksgiving)

By Amanda DK

Connecticut Stone Walls

It’s been a big year both personally and professionally for Tadpole Audio – exciting new content, growth of valuable relationships in the community, revamped logo (you’ll see the full one soon enough) – and I’m just feeling very grateful for all the support we’ve gotten through it all. Thank you to everyone reading this now, and everyone who has ever taken the time to read an interview or listen to a mix featured on this site.  I’m confident that 2012 will hold even more exciting new developments and I cannot wait for them to unfurl.  So stay tuned for that, but for now please enjoy this tasty Thanksgiving mix – the perfect pairing for that leftover turkey sandwich I know you’re eating.

Aural Fixation / (Vegan) Pumpkin Monkey Bread

By Sierra Drucker and Catherine McNulty

It seems like every fall some crazy rumor mongering news outlet reports a pumpkin shortage. Can you imagine going through the entire autumn without pumpkin bread? Or pumpkin scones? Or pumpkin pie?! I can’t, so I go into crazy apocalypse mode and stock up on canned pumpkin, mini pumpkins, sugar pumpkins, and any other orangey gourd I can lay my hands on. But you know what? There are always pumpkins available until the bitter end. Oh yeah, when December rolls around, there they are, looking forlorn and dejected.

But it’s October and it’s time to celebrate the king of the gourds. And nothing showcases the mighty pumpkin quite like cinnamon, nutmeg, sugar, and butter. This recipe can be made vegan or non-vegan and is a delicious addition to a lazy fall brunch.
