DJs have always fascinated me.  It’s a job that seems so easy from the outside – how hard can it be to make a playlist and crossfade from song to song? – but just stand behind a really talented DJ for a few moments and you can’t help be overwhelmed by how much is actually going on.  So many moving parts that all need to be perfectly balanced lest the flow be ruined.  Being a DJ is an art requiring intense concentration, a delicate hand, and real musical sensibility.

Film / Soundtrack Review / Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

As with all highly anticipated soundtracks, I wanted to wait until I actually saw the movie before passing final judgement, and I have to say I’m surprised at the assessment I’m about to make.  The biggest revelation being that while Scott Pilgrim vs. The World is definitely a very music oriented film, its prime motif is video games.  The editing, the music, the production design, the costume design, style, special effects, everything – are all geared to support this.  I know, I know, everyone else knew that but me.  And I did know it.  But now I understand just how important it is for anyone taking a listen to the soundtrack to be aware of that.

TA Mixtape / Summer Lovin: Dandelions Are Not Your Friends

At the end of last week I got so obsessed with writing this story, I completely ran out of time to post my other gardening mix last week.

My 12-year-old self is so tempted right now

Who didn’t think the dandelion was the best flower ever when they were little?  They were the best for making flower chains and headbands.  You could use them as crayons.  If you held one under your chin the amount that it glowed on your skin predicted how rich you would be.  And it was insanely fun to blow the all the seeds away into the wind.
