Here it is.  The obligatory end of year list.  As is the case with every year, I try to keep track of albums I love starting in January.  Then all of a sudden December rolls around and I feel confident I missed a ton, or glossed over some great ones.  I have lofty ambitions to revisit certain albums (Django Django, CHAPPO, Fiona Apple, etc.) and then it never happens.

Disclaimer now done, here is a list of 20 albums and 10 EPs (in no particular order) that I really enjoyed this year, and recommend checking out!

I find it pretty difficult to get into the holiday spirit here in Los Angeles.  I’m assuming this is because I was born and raised on the east coast, where the scenery at this time of year is not unlike what one would find on a postcard.  To be fair though I’ve never actually asked a native what defines Thanksgiving or Christmas to them.

Is Thanksgiving just a very large and specific meal, without the connotation of fall colors and a chill in the air?

It’s been a while since a straight up Tadpole Audio Mixtape, but over this past winter break I found myself inspired as I rode the chairlift at Stratton Mountain in Vermont.  My dad and I were discussing listening to music while skiing – he’s done it before, I worry that I will either not hear an incoming snowboarder, or somehow accidentally crush the device – when I began to think about what I would want to listen to out there in the snow.  I’m not a particularly aggressive skier; I used to race in high school, but that was quite a few years ago.  Now, the only times I hit the slopes are Christmas’s with my family.

Tadpole Audio’s Favorite 25 Albums of 2010

I’ll be honest, I wasn’t going to put a list together – it just seemed too daunting, I was bound to forget important ones, definitely haven’t gotten a chance to listen to many of the most lauded – but then a friend called me out and I naturally I had to rise to the challenge.

I don’t want to call this a “Best of 2010” list, because I feel kind of like a fraud saying that.  Music is so subjective.  To this day I still don’t really understand the mad mass love of Beach House.  Maybe I’ll discover what I’m missing in 2011, but for the moment it is not music that grabs me personally.

That being said, I now present my favorite 25 albums and 5 EPs of 2010
