The first few notes sound oh so familiar…you may start to hum or sing along but soon realize something seems to be slightly off.  Ah yes, this must be a cover.  After racking your brain for the original the cover starts sinks in.  Here is where I decide if I love it or hate it.

Film / Your Music in Media Guide to the 83rd Annual Academy Awards

Finally we are coming to the grand finale of awards season, the 83rd Annual Academy Awards.  If you’ve been following Tadpole Audio’s essential award season coverage, you’ll notice that like the Best Picture or Best Actress nominees, most of the below contenders for the music in film awards have appeared over and over again – at the Globes, Grammys, and consequently on this blog.  Chances are you’ve all gone out and seen the movies by now too, so if you didn’t listen to score selections or original songs on this site, you still pretty much know what I’m talking about.  Just in case you are still hungry for more:

Film / Your Music in Media Guide to the 68th Annual Golden Globes

Now that the holidays are over, and with them all that “peace on earth and goodwill towards men” nonsense, it’s that magical time of year again when judging people is not only acceptable – it’s glorified.  That’s right folks, it’s awards season.  Which means for the next few months we all turn into Statler & Waldorf and every website/blog/TV show/magazine will feature the current crop of Hollywood darlings, leaping on every word and unflattering dress (or suit), debating how worthy they are for each and every nomination.

Tadpole Audio’s Favorite 25 Albums of 2010

I’ll be honest, I wasn’t going to put a list together – it just seemed too daunting, I was bound to forget important ones, definitely haven’t gotten a chance to listen to many of the most lauded – but then a friend called me out and I naturally I had to rise to the challenge.

I don’t want to call this a “Best of 2010” list, because I feel kind of like a fraud saying that.  Music is so subjective.  To this day I still don’t really understand the mad mass love of Beach House.  Maybe I’ll discover what I’m missing in 2011, but for the moment it is not music that grabs me personally.

That being said, I now present my favorite 25 albums and 5 EPs of 2010

Film / Soundtrack Review / The Social Network

First, apologies for how belated this is.  Second, I probably shouldn’t admit this, but I don’t usually enjoy listening to film and TV scores.

Its not that I don’t find them interesting, or that I groan every time I have to review a composer reel for work (though I will if I have to listen to 12 composer reels in a day) – I just don’t think to put on a score for pleasure listening.  With the Golden Globe nominations announced yesterday, I just had to give it up to Atticus Ross and Trent Reznor – their music for The Social Network might be the first film score I’ve actually had on repeat outside of the office.
